Project Management Institute (PMI) is the world’s leading not-for-profit membership association for the project management profession, with more than half a million members and credential holders in 185 countries. PMI worldwide advocacy for project management is supported by globally-recognized standards and credentials, extensive research program, and professional development opportunities PMI offers a comprehensive certification program for project practitioners of all education and skill levels. Currently consisting of five credentials, the program demonstrates both your commitment to the profession and your expertise through certifying education, experience and competency. PMI certification and credentials are distinguished by their global development and application, which makes them transferable across industries and geographical boarders. The role and tasks of project managers around the globe are researched and documented to define each credential. The strength of PMI’s credentials is that they are portable and not tied to a single method, standards, or organization.

About CAPM
PMI’s Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a valuable entry-level certification for project practitioners. Designed for those with less project experience, the CAPM® demonstrates your understanding of the fundamental knowledge, terminology and processes of effective project management. Whether you’re new to project management, changing careers, or already serving as a subject matter expert on project teams, the CAPM can get your career on the right path or take it to the next level. PMI’s single certification – CAPM – tests on individual’s knowledge of the project management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide) and merely requires those who attain it to retest and recertify at the end of the five year certification cycle. The CAPM certification offers recognition to practitioners who are starting a career in project management as well as project team members who wish to demonstrate their project management knowledge. This certification denotes that the individual possesses the knowledge in the principles and terminology of A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide), the standard of project Management’s general recognized good practices.

PMI’s CAPM Certification program
The programme is designed to ensure that all credential holders have demonstrated their competence through fair and valid measures. Steps are taken to ensure only the most reliable testing measures are used in the assessment of candidates. PMI certification and credentials are also developed by project management practitioners for practitioners. The certification program is driven by the thousands of credential holders who volunteer to spend time constructing and refining the examination questions utilized by PMI. These volunteers represent the diversity of PMI’s market, coming from every region of the world, industry, job level and experience level. The exams questions are monitored through industry-standard statistical procedures, also overseen by volunteers. Finally, PMI’s entire certification program is supervised by the Certification Governance Council (CGC), a committee of PMI credential holders who have a Board mandate to oversee PMI’s credentials.

A candidate is assessed by examining their competence using;

a) Review Education and experience
b) Testing Competence
c) Ongoing development
